Hi everyone!

I just recently started playing Texas Hold'Em after getting sucked into watching episode after episode of Celebrity Poker on Bravo with my boyfriend. Before I started watching it for awhile, I had no real understanding for or interest in the game, but now I guess I'm hooked.

A couple of weeks ago we started a bi-monthly poker night at our house playing no-limit, winner takes all hold'em with a $20 buy-in. It's just been pretty much the same group of friends so far, and we've already established a tradition of going out afterwards, with the winner buying everyone a round of drinks.

I just started playing online (play money) last night. I have a Mac, so the sites I can use are somewhat limited. So far I've tried Pokerroom.com & Fulltiltpoker.

Hi uproar!

I got hooked pretty much the same way....watching World Poker Tour on TV.

Playing a regular game is one of the best ways to improve your game (in my opinion). We also have a "losers eat for free" rule in one of the regular games I play...the winner has to bring the beer for the next week (second place has to bring the snacks).

Be careful playing online with the play money....I found that because the players played so crazy (because there was no real money on the line), I developed some bad habits.

Yeah, I've already noticed the insane play on the play money games, both in the ones I've played so far and the ones my boyfriend has played. Granted, in my regular in-person game there has been some crazy play, but that has more to do with the fact that we're all relative beginners, but I think that some of us have more legit strategy than others, who are playing crazy hands to the river and then getting really lucky.

Ditto for me - loved watching it on TV, started playing for free online, then took the plunge and played with some real money.

I've been wanting to get a group of girls together to play, but I'm finding it a challenge in my area. Maybe I need to include the boys.... their money is just as good, right? :)

Anyways, welcome! Hopefully we can share some ideas and strategies.

Niki

I've found with the play money, I can deal with the sit-and-go tournaments much better than the cash tables, because most people don't do the crazy stuff since they want to stay in the tournament for as long as they can. I felt pretty proud the other day...I placed #2 in a sit-and-go that started with 90 people!

This Saturday night is the real money game at my house, I'm excited to be playing again.

I want to take the real money plunge and play online for real, but I'm a little intimidated by having to sign up for something like Netteller and give them all my bank info, etc. I wish PayPal still supported online gaming.
